REVELATION: SharePoint isn’t THE THING… it’s the thing that GETS you to THE THING…..
Ever been watching a show or listening passively to a conversation… and suddenly hear someone say something which literally stops you dead in your tracks? NOT specifically because of WHAT was said… but because it was some sort of last-piece-of-a-puzzle-you-didn’t-even-know-you-were-SEEKING?…
A few weeks ago that happened to me.
I was watching the premier episode of “Hold and Catch Fire”, and heard the main character trying to impart a piece of wisdom to his geeky colleague. He grabbed him by the arm, leaned in, and whispered “The computer ISN’T ‘The Thing’; it’s the thing that GETS you to THE THING”…
As soon as I heard those words, I was thunderstruck. It was such an elegant way to trying to express a thought underlying so much of my work as a Sharepoint Architect:
SharePoint isn’t THE THING… it’s the thing that GETS you to THE THING.
On a daily basis I typically find myself utterly swarming in people who just don’t get this vital concept. For them – be they clients, colleagues, managers – SharePoint IS “THE THING”, and there’s just no getting them to see otherwise.
But the truth is, SharePoint isn’t “THE THING”… it’s the thing that GETS you to THE THING.
So… WHAT IS “THE THING”?
Think about that. You ALREADY KNOW the answer.
See you next post.
