Research Scientist/Computer Engineer/Educator.  The goal of my career has been to address and resolve difficult scientific and engineering problems in government, commercial industry, and defense, through practical, innovative, and simply clever application of advanced computation techniques, systems modeling, and instrumentation development.  I have specialized in applied artificial intelligence, and advanced sensor design coupled to automated platform deployment.

Professional Bio

Dr. Michael Vogt is a Research Scientist and Control Systems Engineer.  Vogt completed his B.S. in Engineering Physics at Bemidji State University in Minnesota; and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence at Illinois Institute of Technology, in Illinois. 

 

The goal of his career has been to address and resolve difficult scientific and engineering problems in government, commercial industry, and defense, through practical, innovative, and simply clever application of advanced computation techniques, systems modeling, and instrumentation development.  He has specialized in applied artificial intelligence, and advanced sensor design coupled to automated platform deployment. 

 

Michael has worked as a researcher for the U.S. Department Of Energy (DOE) and Department of Defense (DoD) for over twenty years, and independently as a contractor for five years where he has proposed and been awarded twelve (12) Small Business Innovation Research/Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Phase I projects and three (3) Phase II projects since 2006. 

 

He has a DOE Q (Top Secret) security clearance; has been a Principal Investigator and Program Manager for twenty-plus years; is the primary inventor on a half dozen patents; and is the author of more than thirty (30) journal articles, conference papers, and textbooks.  Dr. Vogt’s work received an international R&D 100 Award in 2002 for innovation and excellence.

Over 14 years experience almost exclusively in specialties of Portal Technologies and Content Management Systems, responsible over the entire life cycle of massive, cutting-edge web-based Enterprise Information Management applications for Fortune 500 firms including Leo Burnett Advertising, General Growth Properties, Inc, Nicor and OfficeMax, Inc.



Have served as portal expert, project manager, solution architect, data architect and lead developer on numerous local, regional and nation-wide enterprise portal deployments. A regular presenter at local and regional Knowledge Management conferences, and a recognized subject matter expert on the topics of Enterprise Portals, Deployment & Governance Methodologies, Self-organizing/Auto-classifying Enterprise Data Collections, and Knowledge Management Best Practices.

Currently pursuing PMP Certification (target exam date 2010Q1)

Have worked as a researcher engineer for the U.S. Department Of Energy (DOE) designing focusing stands for the Advanced Photon Source (APS) X-Ray accelerator at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) in Chicago.

Professional Bio
A well rounded professional with over 15 years of experience in engineering, administration, and maintenance of information solutions and information technology.  Proven ability to design and build a new datacenter.  Significant web and software development experience.  Strong “hands on” expertise with interfacing enterprise applications to meet business needs. 

At Monster, lead a team web engineers to develop and maintain 25,000 websites.  Produced marketing leads to gain $14M in revenue per year, using a Perl and PHP with Oracle and MySQL infrastructure. 

Used a content management system to managed half million web pages.  Helped created an award winning brand and web design for Argonne National Laboratory.  Performed research to develop a collection for the National Science Digital Library. Design and developed instrumentation and software applications.

Acted as a system administrator, storage administrator, and database administrator supporting core IT services (email, web, file storage, printing, databases, directory services, etc.).  Has utilized VMWare to consolidate physical servers onto high availability VMs on blade servers with attached SAN storage.  Successfully designed and built a datacenter and IT infrastructure (network, access control, phone system, etc.) for a new building and migrated IT equipment into that new datacenter.  Developed and maintained policies, standards, and guidelines to meet regulatory compliance, including HIPAA.
